Perebory: Unveilings

A collection of international correspondence between Helena Syrkus — a leading figure of the Polish avant-garde — and prominent representatives of the Bauhaus movement, including Walter Gropius, Cornelis van Eesteren, and Sigfried Giedion. Spanning four decades, the letters form not only a portrait of complex personal relationships, but a history of a community united around revolutionary design ideas. The book was published to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus founding.

The book’s layout and typography were conceived to echo the Bauhaus aesthetic throughout: a modular grid structures the complex three-language layout — each letter presented in its original alongside Polish and English translations — while bold typographic compositions mark the chapter dividers, table of contents, and title pages.

The cover, made from two bookbinding papers in contrasting colours and embossed to evoke the texture of architectural concrete, engages the sense of touch as a distinct design statement. Loosely inserted between the pages, colour photographs of the correspondence authors create the experience of encountering something unexpected — or long forgotten.
